President's Letter

Well, this is officially my last Whiteley PTA newsletter article that I will write.  I've been part of the PTA since my daughter began Kindergarten in 2000.  Before I began PTA, I was hesitant to join PTA because the rumor was everyone on PTA was "cliquey".  I was determined to find out whether or not it was true.  Well it's not true.  Actually what happens is once you starting volunteering and become part of the PTA board, you then become an added member to a big family. When I became President

4 years ago I really tried to break down those stereotypes and make everyone feel like they belong in the PTA.

PTA is a revolving door because you always have someone

leaving Whiteley and you always have someone entering Whiteley. PTA "acquaintances" grow into friendships and that is what our PTA is about - friendships.  If you haven't considered attending a PTA meeting, please do one time

and you will see what we are all about.  We are a warm and inviting group of individuals who help each other. Amy Langston is your new President and I know she will do a great job and she will welcome all new members with open arms!  Thank you for letting me be your President.  Thank you to all the PTA Board members for making our PTA what it is today and for all that you do for our students.  And lastly, thank you to all the friendships that I have developed at Whiteley.

Here's to a safe and enjoyable summer!

Field Day - Health & Safety Committee

mrharris missm SonicClass

harrissonic  It was a great day at Whiteley!

We all had a chance to enjoy the end of a fantastic school year together.  It also helped that the weather cooperated.

A heartfelt Thank You to the many volunteers that donated their time during Field Day and their time filling up over 2,000 water balloons!   Special Thanks to Superintendent Scott Thompson and Scott Herr of our District 15 School Board for joining in the fun.  Many, many Thanks to the very brave Noel Hazlett, Carey Vitosh, Ms. Bartnicke, Ms. Hyla, Mr. Armementos, Ms. Chandler and former Whiteley student, Anthony Rubliatus for the many, many times that they were "dunked'' in the water!  Also, a round of applause goes to SONIC from Gameworks and Oberweis Dairy for some added excitement and treats.

And especially,  Thank You to Miss M and Mr. Harris for so many fun activities.  Your enthusiasm makes all the difference, not only for Field Day, but every day!  Thank YOU!

Staff Appreciation Committee

Our Appreciation week was well received by all of the Whiteley staff. The pages of the thank you books that the students made were so thoughtful. The staff also enjoyed; coffee and sweets, a luncheon catered by Maggiano's, a gift card raffle during announcements, as well as surprises in their mailboxes.

Thank you again, Whiteley staff, for all of your hard work and dedication to our children!

Fun Fair Committee

This year's Fun Fair was a huge success.  It could not have been done without the help from our wonderful parent volunteers and Whiteley staff.  We would like to once again thank all who helped to make this night a great event.  The donations of baked items for the cake walk and books for the book walk made both very successful.  Also, thank you to the PTA members who took extra time to manage various areas to help make the Fun Fair enjoyable for the Whiteley families.  Mark your calendars for March 2, 2012 for next year's Fun Fair event.

It's Not Too Late to Sign Up For Camp Invention!

Camp Invention is a week long summer program that allows children to conduct scientific investigations and to explore their imaginations as well as the world of science.  This year our program will work with mysterious codes, the science of bouncy balls, innovative animals, challenging games, and imaginative inventions.  We are lucky enough to have this great program right here at Whiteley School from June 20-24 (8:30am-3:30pm).  In addition, we have many familiar Whiteley staff members participating in camp this year:  Miss Bartnicke, Miss Swietek, Mrs. Otte, Mrs. Grabowski, Mrs. Slavieck, Mrs. Stachowiak (formerly Miss Meyer), and several former students putting in their time as volunteers.

Blossoms for Japan

I would like to give a

big Thank You to the Whiteley Families.

Throughout the month of April, the Origami Fund-Raising was held in school.  Many students coming from the various grade levels participated in this activity.  Their dollars made a huge difference to support Japan.  At the end of this activity, the cherry blossom tree was blossoming with a lot of flowers.

The proceeds of this activity ($327.31), were sent to JCCC (Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Chicago).  That will assist the people of the particular regions to rebuild their lives and communities.

Thanks so much for your kindness and support.
