President's Letter

Happy New Year to everyone!
With the winter break over and our students back to school, it's time for the PTA to get back and start off the new year with some fun activities. We started the year off with a fantastic movie night. A big thanks to Paula Riccardo for organizing the movie night. Our next movie night is on Friday, February 10th. We hope to see lots of kids there.
Fun Fair is around the corner on Friday, March 2nd and volunteers are always needed to help that event run smoothly. If you are interested in volunteering please watch for the Fun Fair Committee volunteer sheet.
Thank you to the families that participated in our Market Day Pizza Fundraiser, the money from that fundraiser helped pay for the upcoming student assembly. Our next PTA meeting is on Thursday, January 26th
at 7pm. Please come and join us.
Thank you for supporting the FCW PTA,
Amy Langston

Letter from Our Principal
|
Dear Parents,
Winter is finally here and I would appreciate your assistance with two important areas.
1) Please make sure that your child is prepared for outdoor recess with a warm coat, gloves, hat, snow pants and boots.
2) When dropping off your child in the front circle in the morning please pull forward as far as possible to alleviate the congestion on Haman Ave. When picking up your child from the front circle after school, please stay with your vehicle so that you may slowly move forward as cars exit. Leaving an unattended vehicle creates a safety issue.
Thanks to our Room Parents who have already be working on Valentine's Day Classroom parties which will take place on Tuesday, February 14th from 2:00-2:45 PM. Each classroom has Room Parents who are organizing the activities for that day.
SAVE THE DATE: Friday March 2, 2012 9:00-9:30 AM Read Across America Day. I will be sending home information about Whiteley School participating in this special day by having each student invite a special person in his or her life to join us on that day. It will require parents completing Whiteley School's Read Across America Day form which will be sent home Friday, January 27, 2012. Please complete the special guest information form and return to your child's teacher.
Whiteley's Fun Fair is also Friday, March 2nd from 6:00-8:00 PM. This is one of our most popular PTA sponsored family events. It requires a substantial number of volunteers. Please consider volunteering that evening by donating a half hour of your time, baking cookies, or assisting with set up or clean up, etc. Please visit Whiteley's PTA website and sign up for one of the Fun Fair Volunteer opportunities.
Mr. Greg Armamentos has been working with students in Grades 2-6 during the noon hour to prepare for the upcoming Math Kangaroo Competition which will take place on Thursday, March 15 at 5:00 P.M. at Whiteley School.
Important March Dates:
March 2-16 Illinois Standards Achievement Testing Grades 3-6
March 15 Math Kangaroo Competition 5:00 PM Grades 2-8
March 26-30 Spring Break
Please contact me with any questions or
concerns at szuchm@ccsd15.net or

Thanks for your continued support,
Mrs. Mary Szuch, Principal

Community Outreach Wrap Up
|

Children Helping Children
Our generosity was greatly appreciated by the residents of Palatine Township over the holidays. Our students and their families gave 128 gifts to those in need. Thank you all for caring and sharing during the holiday season. We made a lot of children and adults smile!
Helping Hands Club
Helping Hands Club continues to shine! We received a wonderful letter from Clearbrook with many warm thanks and appreciation for our turkey pins we made for their residents! Also, the residents of Plum Grove Nursing Home were overjoyed with their handmade holiday cards and Hershey kisses we delivered by hand to each room. Great job, Helping Hands!
Our club will be making Valentine's day cards for soldiers recovering at the Edwards Hines, Jr. VA Hospital during our January meeting along with sending donations of trial size shampoo and toothpaste and recent magazines or paperback books for the soldiers to enjoy. In February, we plan to brighten Rosewood Nursing Home again with handmade centerpieces for their cafeteria tables.
Thank you students and families for all of your support and generosity.
Have a wonderful new year!
Mary Beth Warner and Nancy Edwards

A note from the Eco Committee
| |
Thank you to everyone who participated in January's Green Day. We had some great lunchroom participation with waste free lunches, a lot of green clothing, and even a few that decided to walk to school. The next Green Day will be Tuesday, February 7th. Since we are anticipating some cold temperatures we are encouraging the families to consider carpooling as an eco friendly way to get to school. We will not be giving raffle tickets for
walking. We will however still reward those with completely waste free lunches, and those who are wearing green. We will even be giving an extra raffle ticket to those who choose to wear more than one green item of clothing.
We are hoping that you all think about a way that your Valentine's Day School Celebration can be Eco friendly. If you have any ideas for making the classroom parties green make sure you share your ideas or photos with us and we will award extra raffle tickets to the classroom with the best ideas and follow thru. Email ideas to hazlett@nhh98.com subject: Eco Valentines Day

A special thank you to Amy Langston, Anne Morel, Jennifer Ferrar, Mary Beth Warner, Michelle Schultz and Mrs. Szuch for helping to make the night successful. Your assistance was very much appreciated! -Paula Riccardo, VP Programs

Box Tops For Education Committee
|

It may be cold outside, but our school spirit is heating up! Since December, our students have turned in over 7,000 BoxTops to show their school spirit and Paw Power Pride! One recess prize pack will be given to the classroom that turns in the most Paw Powers, and another one will be given to the class that turns in the most BoxTops per student. Tuesday, January 31st is the last day to turn in Paw Power Sheets, so keep them coming. Fantastic job, Wildcats, and keep clipping!
